Right now, if you ping you see unkowns, the knowns have EM/IR etc etc

(although getting these numbers can be super annoying and actually selecting the thing u want to actually scan evenmore so……)

But could we start seeing active scanners which are directional rather than ping?

So I could for example man the scanning station on the Carrack and point my scanner in various directions and

1) have a more sensitive radar contact as long as I keep the thing we’ve detected in the scanner arc

2) be able to identify unknown signatures at MUCH longer ranges, at least for example to tell what type of asteroid to mine, if not its actual constituents

3) BUT while using this method, the scanning ship’s EM should be insanely high

I know that there’s signs that this is actually happening, as with the terrapin right now

but more direct control of when its off/on with upsides and downsides (seeing but being seen) would be good

We’ve made great improvements to the Radar and Scanning feature, with some of these already available in Alpha PTU 4.1. Recent work included enabling delta-signature markers when detected, and exposing more options to change the visuals for highlighting detected contacts. There’s more work ongoing, that we will share with you soon. Also… on another (FPS) note, we made progress on a hand-held radar jammer!
