In light of my last post about the Vulcan API.(Thank you for your response Silvan!)
Are there any substantial improvements to the Main Thread that we could look forward to in the near future?
Also when could we expect info on New upscaling technology like AMD Frame Generation and Nvidia DLSS 3.5?
Are there any other things you guys are working on that would result in an overall increase of average FPS in game, besides MT improvements and upscaling technologies?
There is no singular headline technology that will drastically improve main thread performance in one go. There are dozens of complex systems at play, and even fully removing one of them wouldn’t make the game substantially faster. Instead we have many people working across many teams to improve the performance across the board. Often it only takes one piece of code to go wrong to cripple the performance (e.g. a bunch of objects detaching incorrectly and interpenetrating causing physics to struggle), and the PTU tends to expose many of these on each patch, so sometimes the biggest gains are from just identifying and resolving these rather than foundational improvements to the technology (though each team is making big strides in their own areas). It’s not a sexy marketing answer, but it’s the reality.
I’d recommend enabling “r_profileGraph 1” via the console if you are interested in identifying your performance bottleneck, and that might help direct conversation to particular problem areas (e.g. locations / missions / hardware setups) and we could see if there’s more specific answer / information for the specific performance issues hot spots you are seeing.
